How to set Active Directory authentication properly?
Solution

From version 7.4.2, Administrators can authenticate against an Active Directory server for users in Icewarp Mail Server.

This article describes how to create a new user in Icewarp to be authenticated by Active Directory.

The example is based on an Active Directory Server called "ad.Icewarpmailserver.com" and there exists a User "helpdesk" in domain "yourdomain.com".

  1. Create a new user in Icewarp. In this example we are creating user "tester' in "domain.com". You need to select "Active Directory" mode from the Mode drop-down.

Users - Miscellaneous Tab - Special Section

  2. In the text box to the right of the Mode box you need to specify authentication information.

The format of authentication is "Active Directory Server;Active Directory User" (note the delimiting semi-colon)

    In this example - ad.Icewarpmailserver.com;helpdesk@yourdomain.com

If the AD server is located on the same machine as Icewarp then this can be dropped from the authentication

In this example - ;helpdesk@yourdomain.com (note the semi-colon still needs to be there)

If the AD server is located on the same machine AND the User and domain names are the same then the authentication box can be left blank.
